Legal Question in Business Law in District of Columbia

Stolen Identity

I worked at a Dunkin' Donuts when I was 15 years old for about a month. I am now 25. This year it was found that I earned over $10,000 at this job and my refund was applied to taxes on that amount. Obviously a 15 year old could not have made this money. When calling Dunkin' Donuts to find out who I could file a complaint against about my stolen SSN, they said sorry, can't help you. They said they had no record of anyone who had a franchise from the time when this income was reported from. Is Dunkin' Donuts at all responsible for their franchises? I would like to at least file papers against the store owner, which they say they do not know. I have an Employer Identification Number for the owner, but upon calling the Consumer Affairs office they said that this business owner had since forfeited their company. Is there anything I can do? Can Dunkin' Donuts be held responsible? My soc. sec. account indicates that I worked for them. I would like to at least get my tax refund back.

Thank you,

Jeremy

Re: Stolen Identity

File a refund claim with the Internal Revenue Service. You have two years from the April 15 of the year you filed the tax return with an overpayment.

The IRS people will be very helpful.
