Legal Question in Traffic Law in District of Columbia

Dead Tags

I was recently pulled over in DC for expired VA tags. The tags had been dead for three days. Can I be ticketed for this in DC? When I pulled over for the police officer, it was in a no parking zone. The officer proceeded to tell me, after giving me a ticket, that I was illegally parked, but if I moved the vehicle, I would be arrested. I was told to take a cab home (over 200 miles) and have my car towed. The officer again threatened arrest and a night in jail if the car was moved. I asked how I was supposed to get it out of the no parking zone without moving the vehicle. To this the officer replied ''Good luck figuring that out without me catching you moving the vehicle'' I then asked her for directions to a pay phone within walking distance so I could call for help. The officer replied ''That's not my problem or my job!''

Re: Dead Tags

Of course you can be ticketed in D.C. for "dead tags" or in any other jurisdiction, for that matter.

I would wonder why it apparently took the MPD three days to discover that fact and, also, why anyone would foolishly undertake a 200 mile trip

from some southerly part of Virginia to D.C. with vehicle tags either already expired or about to do so.
