my mother has past kue credit card bills that she cannot afford to pay and is getting nasty phone calls what can she do?

If she cannot afford to pay them she can look at the option of bankruptcy to clear the debts.

Get her to a consolidation counsellor and see if there is a way to handle some payment of these accounts. Otherwise, file bankruptcy.
