Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

employment demand to sign arbitration agreement

I am currently working for Dennys and they just went from corporate to franchise and i am being demanded to sign an arbitration agreement or lose my job. No one at the company will explain anything about it and im told by managers they dont know when asked. What is the legality of forcing to sign an arbitration agreement and what kind of grounds do i have to fight it if i do not agree and am fired? My Hours have been cut from 40 to one day a week now.

If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

An employer can make any demands of an employee that is not in violation of the law. As your new employer, the franchise can request that you sign an arbitration agreement or else you will be terminated. Having said that, I am not sure the agreement would be upheld if you were to challenge it at a later date.

I agree; you will need to sign if you want to keep the job.

Re: employment demand to sign arbitration agreement

you are an at-will employee; you can be fired for any reason other than discrimination or retaliation under certain circumstances. you probably need to sign the arbitration agreement or lose your job.
