I assume you are dealing with small claims court in Florida otherwise I cannot be sure of procedures in Alabama. Generally, if you are being sued in small claims court you must appear or a default will be entered against you and the company.

You will either need to appear or hire an attorney to appear on your behalf unless you can settle the matter amicably prior to the court date. If appearing in court is a major hardship (and not just an inconvenience) one other possible alternative is to call the court and ask to appear by telephone.
