Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

Verbal Contract

I recieved a job offer over the telephone and I gave verbal ''OK'' to take the job. Now due to unforseen family circumstances I will be unable to take the job. No written contract was signed but the company is holding me to a ''Verbal Contract''. Is this a legal and binding agreement? Can the company hold this verbal agreement against me? To my knowledge no money has changed hands at this time.

Re: Verbal Contract

There is little that could be done that would be averse to your interests. Nonetheless, you should consult with an attorney and review with him/her the total situation.

Re: Verbal Contract

You need a face-to-face consultation with a lawyer. Unless the future employer expended all sorts of efforts and money in reliance on your verbal representation, there's not much of a claim against you, and even then there are a variety of defenses your lawyer could assert to protect your interests in the event any claim was brought against you. Good luck.
