Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Florida

I have no lease but had a roommate, they moved out a month ago handed me my keys. Owed money and left property, can I keep this property since the landlord never knew they were even there?

If you have a lease (signed by you and the landlord) you have the right to occupy for the duration of the lease.
