Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Florida

Is it legal for the help desk at the Florida Dept. of Motor Vehicles to ask me "where are you from, do you have a green card or show me your immigration status"? I told her I am from Massachussetts, and that I have a valid Florida CDL Hazmat (a Hazmat endorsment requires a federal background check) license that doesnt expire till 2012. I told her I have a Social Security Card and I showed her my valid CDL and said where did I get this in regards to my license. She also stated that my new forms of address were not good but were of a recent bank statement and a letter with a letterhead from the FL. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Can I challenge the state over the questioning my citizenship and get a simple address change without having my "papers" being checked?

Yes. You are required to provide proper identification to confirm your citizen status. Check the DMV of Florida's website for information about what identification is required to prove citizenship status or to confirm an address.
