Legal Question in Construction Law in Florida

Attorney's fees

We had one meeting with an attorney to determine whether or not he will represent us. We discussed our case, his fees, his suggestions for us. The attorney then went on vacation unbeknownst to us. We collected and organized the necessary info, however when we called his office we were advised that he would not be in for another week. Shortly after that I called to advise them that we are proceeding in a different direction and will not be needing his services. Yesterday we received a bill. We were surprised and disappointed. Can we dispute this bill?

Re: Attorney's fees

Going on vacation in this circumstance may not be unreasonable. But your answer depends on what was agreed at the meeting or any advertising you saw. Many attorneys do charge something for consulting, especially if it takes longer than 30 minutes.
