Collection agency fair practice?

In ref to a Dr. Bill from Dec'06 Dr. from NV which bill was send to Quantum collections

after recieving there letter I replied to them to send verification of debt

they replied with a note from Dr. just stating the total amount

The collection agency had charged 1200.-- on interest on their letter..

(??)

Yet no interest is listed on Dr.'s verification note

What can I do about this collection agency? What are my rights? I am on disability income only

Cannot charge interest unless part of contract.
