Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

False debt due claim

I had a lease agreement which was terminated early. I have a notice to vacate form that was filled and signed by a member of the landlords office. The form explained what I owed. I paid in amount in full. Now a collection agency has contacted me saying I owe over $4k. Apparently there was an addendum to the lease I signed at the same time I signed the lease indicating I would pay back any concessions given. However when I gave notice to vacate I was verbally told that they were waiving the $2600 as long as I paid for 60 days worth of rent. The notice to vacate form shows the same figure. Now the collection agency says that form is not valid and they are going to persue collection attempts. What are my rights?

Re: False debt due claim

Was the lease for commercial or personal use? In any event you should not pay and await suit. Then defend the claim. You should retain counsel to protect your interests.
