Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

garnished wages from a credit card debt

I am 4 months behind in paying my crdeit card. 3 months ago I started paying 175.00 per month, but I was not able to catch up from past months. (About 600.00). An attorney has now contacted me to pay the full amount of $6000. Can they garnish my wages? I live in Florida and saw that if I am head of household that the frist $500 weekly is exempt. I only make $800 bi-weekly. Does that mean they can not garnish?

Re: garnished wages from a credit card debt

If they sue and get a judgment they can garnish up to certain standards. You are correct about there being certain exemptions for head of households. More information would be needed and you should contact a lawyer if they sue you or if you want to try to negotiate the amount down and get into a payment plan.
