Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
Harrasing calls about a debt on a department credit card
I have been getting threating, harrasment calls on my house, cell and even at work, and when i have asked for a itemized bill to investegate the charges due to me paying off that department store in the late 90's i have been told they dont have to provide that information and for me just to pay them. What can i do to get them to send me the information or stop harrasing me.

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.
You need to send them a letter by certified mail demanding that they provide proof/verification of the debt owed. If they cannot provide it, they must cease and desist. Further, if you have an attorney, you can tell them to contact your attorney and they can no longer disturb you.

Send a letter to the collection agency or creditor saying you dispute the debt under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and that they should cease all contact with you or be subject to the fines, etc. under th Act. Also, if you didn't pay anything since the 90's, the statute of limitations may have run out already.
