Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

hospital bill

I live in Florida and presently have no health insurance. I owe the hospital $956.00. I have mailed them $10 and plan on mailing them at least that once a month. They told me unless I pay at least $25 each month, they will take me to a collection agency. Can they do this?

Of course. The hospital has every right to seek payment in any lawful manner which includes sending your account to a collection agency or attorney. It is also not unreasonable of them to ask for $25.00 per month as a minimum payment. Without interest, it will take them 39 months to collect the monies due which will be a substantial expense for them.

It is in your best interest to resolve this before additional fees or costs of collection get added to your obligation.
