Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

payday loan collection

I defaulted on a $195 payday loan.

The collection agent told me I would be arrested for fraud if I didn't pay back the loan plus interest $350.I told him I could make payment arrangements when I started back to work.He said that would be fine but that I had to call him everyday until payment was made in full.He keeps asking personal questions everytime I call and I cannot get a supervisors number to switch collectors. He gets beligerent everytime I try to get off the phone. Is it normal to have to ''report in'' everyday?Who can I call to report this or question this?

I only have his direct line not a company number. He won't give me a company number just the name United Processing Company. He has me scared.I am living in Florida.

A bill collector can not harrass you. Further, he/she cannot threaten you with arrest which is not within their power. It sounds as if this collector may have violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. You should meet with a consumer attorney to discuss this further.
