Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

power bill

Ok I have a problem. I was not billed from the electric company for a year, and now they are sending me a bill for $2600 saying its for back billing. Is there a time limit for this or am I actually responsible for this bill, or can I fight it?

You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

You are responsible for the outstanding bill. If you fail to pay, they can turn off your electric. If you do not have electric in your residence, it can be condemned as unliveable. If paying the bill all at one time is a problem, you may be able to request a time period in which to pay the bill. They may agree to several months but will probably not extend it much further.

Re: power bill

You are responsible but they should be willing to accept payments. If not, an attorney might be able to persuade them.
