Voluntary repossession

I financed a pick up truck in Florida. I defaulted on the payments due to loss of job and subsequently moved out of state, taking the vehicle with me. I want to voluntarily relinquish the vehicle. Am I criminally liable for crossing state line with vehicle? Do I have to return it to FLorida or can I do it from the other state. The finance co is Wells Fargo, so there are branches here.

You can negotiate the return with the creditor. You may have to pay the balance due after sale of the vehicle so you may want to negotiate that as well. You did not act criminally.

Contact Wells Fargo (not a bank branch, call the customer service number on your monthly loan statements), tell them you want to voluntarily surrender the vehicle and ask where in your area you should take it (this will save you the fee for them to send out a tow truck). They may have you take the vehicle to the nearest dealer which sells that brand of vehicle. Look at your loan contract - does it make you criminally liable for removing the vehicle to another state if you are past due on the payments? Probably not.
