Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

wrong charges, might not be my account

A company provided services to clean up hurricane damge three years ago to my single family house. We did not have written contract, or oral contract. They did not bill us or contacted us. After that I did not hear from him since. Last year they start contacting me by phone, asking me to contact my insurance company for money to pay them. They are asking $24000. I think this is fraud. I reject to pay them anything, since they wrongfully over charge me. Now the creditor sell the account to a debt collection and wanted to verify the debt with me for amount of $24000!!!. In the debt collector bill, it says I can dispute the debt, but they will verify and send me a judgement. Now I am scared. How can they do this? They can just file any amount to a debt collection company and ask me for money? Is this legal? What kind of power do they have with the judgement?

Regards

joe

Re: wrong charges, might not be my account

They will verify and provide you with document showing amount due. They cannot get a judgment without suing you. You probably should contact an attorney locally or feel free to contact my office.
