Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I was accused of committing shop lifting (petty theft), it never went to trial and I instead did a pre-trial diversion program. This happened at the arraignment, and it went through as a nolle prosequi. When filling out job applications that ask whether or not i was ever convicted of a misdemeanor is a nolle prosequi an acceptance of conviction? It was never even explained to me clearly whether the pre-trial diversion was an admission of guilt.

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

You may answer that you have never been convicted of a crime, assuming this is the only one you ever had.

A nolle prosse is fancy talk for the State dismissed the charges against you. PTI is an agreement between you and the State. You agree to stay out of trouble, pay some money, and go on a psuedo probation. In return, the State agrees to drop all charges against you.

So your record is clear. You may want to consider getting an attorney to expunge/seal your record.
