Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

My son has been in jail for about 6 weeks and is assigned a public defender, however, they have not talked to my son at all. His arraignment is Nov. 16. I have tried contacted them on his behalf and they won't talk to me because I am not the defendant or a witness. This is his first time and for us too so we don't understand some things, but I have been doing what research I can. We are very frustrated that we can't find out what the plan is for his defense.

Unfortunately, unless you obtain a family lawyer that you can speak with at least represent him , or you to understand what he been charged with and the defenses to that crime some of your questions that are not likely to be answered and public defenders have 100's of cases that they are assigned to handle. If your son can't afford a lawyer he has been assigned a public defender as a result that's likely the situation that you're looking at now. If you want to hire a private lawyer to provide a limited service to you to help you understand your questions that might be feasible in your situation and less expensive than trying to hire a lawyer to try the case or whatever it's going to happen in the legal system. I've helped clients like this because they don't even know what the charges are or how to figure out where they are which is public record but public record are not easy to find or what it means to the defendant and you in this case.
