sell products that resemble celebrities

hey, is it illegal to make action figures or dolls that resemble celebrities,EVEN though, i use a different name for the doll or figure, like for example, if i make a doll that looks a lot like britney spears, but i sell it under the name britney swords, is this illegal, and if so does changing the name completely to something like selena jacobs help any or is it that i can't make it at all

If the doll looks like Britney Spears but it isn't labeled as such, your're probably okay so long as the name isn't Brittany Spears or Britney Spiers. You get the point? Just don't try and confuse a consumer into buying a replica of the celebrity.
