Without seeing the specific language of your court order, the best advice I can give you is as follows: The Clerk of Couts should adjust the record pursuant to the Court Order. The record would be researched to confirm the date of birth or any other information to confirm emancipation/reaching the age of majority. Contact your local clerk for more information.

Keep in mind that if you have a child with special needs who will remain dependent past the age of 18, the court can order continuing support be paid after the age of 18. The same is true if your child is still in high school, but expected to graduate by age 19.

If youd like to schedule a telephone or email legal consultation, please do not hesitate to contact me. Please email your inquiries at [email protected] and Ill send you a Questionnaire. Or you may reach me by telephone at 1-800-408-5818.
