Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Default Judgement

In 12 - 98 I was involved in an auto accident, in which I am at fault. I had no insurance and was sued by the other party. The amount was for $1,296 plus 10% interest per year. The suit was filed in 1999. In 2001 my license was suspended for failure to comply with the judgement which says basically to pay the money to the other party. Now Im older, I would like to get my license back and would like to reach an ''agreement'' with the other party. I havent yet contacted the other party. Would hiring a lawyer to negotiate a new agreement be a wise choice? If so what area of practice should I look for? Finally is there a good liklihood that working out a settlement is possible? Thanks for your time.

Re: Default Judgement

You are wise to try to settle the matter. Until they are contacted it is impossible to advise how they will react to a settlement. I suggest you use local counsel. Good luck.
