Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Possibly being sued

My ex-step-sister is now saying she is suing me because of a blog I wrote not using her full name. I wrote that she lied about a miscarriage because thats the info I got. I later found out she had one in AUG but the incident I spoke of was in Sept. She even confirms these dates in a letter sent to myself, my mother and my husbands work. He is in the Navy and this can have an effect on his career even though he is NOT involved. On top of that she is accusing me of stalking and defamation of character. She has copied all of my blogs, changed a few even and is saying they are all about her. She has even sent letters to my husbands place of employment. An answer to if she can do this is appreciated.

Re: Possibly being sued

It doesn't sound like much of a law suit. If what you ahve said is true, you should be fine and I doubt that she will spend the money to sue you -- although it is obviously a possibility. Leave her alone and hope that it blows over.

Anyone can sue anybody in the State of Florida. The real issue is whether or not there was any damages incurred? Of course, if what you said is true, that is a defense to any action filed.

Re: Possibly being sued

I agree with the other counsel but you also have to worry about a cause of action for invasion of privacy which may exist even if what you said is true. If it doesn't blow over since its family, you may need an attorney. You may call this office if you desire a consultation.
