Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Purchase of a car

I and my husband bought a car. We used it for couple months and then returned it to dealership, because we were unable to pay for it anylonger (my husband lost his job). Dealership sold the car from the auction, so we own them the difference ($14,000), which we can not pay either. Now I got the paper from the court saying that Ford credit Company filed a lawsuit against us, and they want difference plus lawyer fee plus court fee (approx. $18,000-20,000).

Now we have to respond within 20 days. Would economy slow down (lost job) be a legal defense for us for breaching a contract or should we consider bankruptsy? What type of lawyer do We need? Can we also claim that the car is overpriced (it was brand new ford focus 2007 and they give us a price $24,000 (NADA shows clean retail price 14,500)). What should we claim in our response to the court to defend us?

Re: Purchase of a car

Those are probably not valid excuses to a breach if contract. You need to contact an attorney to negotiate your debt.
