Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida
Hello. I received a $200 and then another $450 (didnt pay all only $25 + convenience fee to pay online whis is $14) settlement offer from Palmer, Reifler & Associates, P.A. because i took a $5 item out of a store that i had no intention of steeling. Long story short, 2 guys caught me and brought me back to their office. They had me fill out papers that they said was just for their record and took the item back and said there wouldn't be any charges or fines. Then i left. I'm a minor. They literary lost $0 because of this because they got the item back and the guys that stopped me were on the clock. Do i have to pay this settlement fee. I've read that they send out like a million of these letters but pursue less then 10 of them a year. And if they took me to court i doubt they would even get $50.

They send one of these letters for every single theft case at Walmart. I am not aware of them ever actually filing suit and I do not think the numbers they usually demand are justified. With that in mind, theoretically they could sue if you do not pay.
