Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

removing a name from a joint car loan

My now estranged boyfriend and I bought a car together and there is now no contact at all between the 2 of us. Any contact previously has been volatile and his current girlfriend is making threats against me for making any contact to rectify the situation. He has the vehicle, how do I get my name off of the loan?

You cannot remove your name from the car loan - only the lender can do that and generally they will not. Your credit and earnings were used in calculating the loan viablity and creditworthiness of the borrower. The lender will usually not release a borrower just because they have become estranged or divorced from a co-borrower. They only way to get this done is to have your ex payoff or refinance the existing loan.
