I am married 3 1/2 years. My husban is waiting for his last interview to get his permanent green card. I have bought to properties in my name without his knowledge as a single woman. Is this going to affecet us in the interview? and can I do something in this short period to fix my mistake?

Re: Bought property as a single woman

Hi,

Before answering this one, I think more information is necessary. For instance, 1) was/is such a a marriage a "genuine" union as that is normally defined by custom, law, etc.; 2) when one states that he/she bought properties as a "single woman," does he/she mean before or after the marriage; 3) in either case, why did he/she do so without at least informing the other spouse; 4) why would that person consider the foregoing a "mistake"; and 5) did he/she w/hold any of this information from the Service during the 1st interview?

The answers to the foregoing questions may help determine whether marriage fraud was committed in a fact pattern such as that mentioned in this question. I.e., did the wife and/or husband deliberately enter into a marriage for immigration benefits and/or withhold information from the Service in the process. The distribution of respective properties may or may not have a bearing on this issue. Thus, that's why more information is needed here. Only then will a legal determination, let alone possible remedial actions, be possible or wise.

One last point. Publishing possible marriage fraud is likely not wise given confidentiality issues and possible prosecution. One may wish to seek counsel directly on point.

Hope these preliminary notions helped. Of course, they do not constitute legal advice; are general in nature and not specific to any case; and assume no law enforcement investigation is currently ongoing.

Good luck.
