Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida

Dear Madam/ Sir

I arrived in USA one month ago with DV1 visa and till now I recive my green card and social security no.

Because I have a job contract in Europe, I have to leave USA for 11 months starting 03.09.2013, after I will come back. Pls can you tell me if I can do that without loosing my right of residence in US, if not please tell me what I should do to to honor my job contract and in same time to not loose my permanent residence in USA?

The normal rule of thumb is not remaining abroad for more than one year. However, since you just arrived and have not fully established residency here I would advise applying for a Reentry Permit before leaving. Such a permit shows that you did not intend to abandon status.

Mere possession of one does not protect you from scrutiny when you try to reenter but it does offer more protection than not having one.

You need to be physically present in the US to apply for one so you should apply for one before leaving. See if you can postpone your contract to apply for and receive the reentry permit.
