Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida

Hi. I am reapplying for my green card which is expiring soon. My biometrics is in a couple of days. I have a grand theft felony charge on my criminal record. What are the chances that they will renew my green card?

Unfortunately you might want to plan on being put in removal proceedings when you try to renew your green card. That does not necessarily mean you will be deported if you do end up getting placed in removal proceedings. However, the grand theft felony charge may raise a red flag and depending upon whether you were convicted of this charge and how much time you were sentenced to serve, you may have some problems. You will probably also have problems if you try to get citizenship if this charge/conviction occurred within 5 years from the time you were charged to the time you apply for citizenship. This is not to say that you should not apply to have your permanent resident card renewed. You just want to be prepared for the inevitable when you do apply (and probably have an immigration attorney on hand who is experienced in deportation defense) depending on the details of your case.

Yes, this is a "crime of moral turpitude" and could be a deportable offense. You need to consult a lawyer. A lawyer should review your criminal record, record of convictions, relevant criminal Statute and your immigrant history.
