It will not prevent you from petitioning, but any criminal record will be highly scrutinized and the petition may be denied. You must have some strong evidence of rehabilitation, the fact that your fiance is aware of your transgression, and depending on what jurisdiction, what court, the conviction was in, it will depend on whether it was a felony or misdemeanor. Hopefully you were required to take some courses, like anger management or whatever because that would help. If you need legal assistance, don't hesitate to contact my office via my website www.seglegal.com, and we can help you through this. You do not say what country your fiance is coming from. Good luck!
