Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Federal Employment Law

My Father is 60 years old and has worked for the post office for 23 years he has a spotless record with the post office. he was in the Navy from 1968-1977 and has a spotless record there too. My Father has some health issues and he has had to take sick leave to go to the Dr. and he had a septic infection here recently too. The Post Office is now giving him written notices of Warning for taking time off to go to the Dr appts. He has been unable to schedule them on his day off as they have had him working on his days off. They are trying to fire him I think do to his age and his eligibility for Retirement. What can he do? Is this Legal for him to be written up to go to a Dr. Appt and to also take my sick Mother to the Doctor? As she can no longer drive and I live 5 hours away.

Re: Federal Employment Law

He has the right to FMLA leave up to 12 weeks per year unpaid. He has to apply for it and can take it day by day, weeks at a time, etc. as needed per his doctor. He needs to ask for it and fill out the forms. If he has any problems, contact a lawyer and I would certainly be pleased to speak with you.
