Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

FMLA/Health Insurance

I am a teacher who has a baby due August 12th. Our school only offers one year contracts and my annual contract would start August 1st. I will be taking FMLA time for 12 weeks when I have my baby. If towards the end of the 12 weeks, I decide to not go back to school, could my health insurance company and/or school go after me for medical expenses?

Re: FMLA/Health Insurance

I would need to see your contract to be certain, but generally speaking, no they could not go after you. Under FMLA you are not getting a salary while you are off. Make sure you will still have coverage even though you are not working and not getting paid.
