Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
I am an hourly paid employee. When the workflow dictates, my company may require me to work 9-10-11 hours in one day. Then I am told that I must shave of the extra time the next day by taking a long lunch (sometimes as long as 2 hours and 45 minutes), so that the company can avoid paying overtime. Is this legal? This essencially means that I am at work 9-10-11 hours one day, but get paid for 8, or (the next day) I am at work for 8 hours, but due to the long forced lunch I get paid for 5 hrs and 15 minutes. I realize I can get paid for the hours I actullay spend with working, but it seem very unfair that I can end up working a long day, yet still get paid for 8 hours only.
