Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Verbal Contract ?
I work for a large financial institution.During my interview/hiring process my manager said that there was a one time yearly bonus of $10K if my business unit hit certain performance metrics. However, this bonus plan was never in writing though it was a bonus that the company offered & people in the past had received the bonus. Twice during the course of the year my manager said my unit was meeting the goal and would receive the bonus. At the end of the year I did not receive the bonus. The president of the financial institution said that the bonus would not be paid to me since a significant portion of the goal for our unit was met with a single client relationship based on proximity of our location rather than originated by my business unit. This was NEVER told to me or mentioned over the course of the year or at any time. In fact prior to accepting the position I confirmed with my manager the set goal and nature of the bonus. My question is : Since my manager was acting on behalf of the company and as the bonus plan was explained to me & twice I was told I would receive the bonus does this qualify as a verbal contract in the State of Florida & do I have any l have any legal recourse to attempt to obtain the $10,000 in question ?

Re: Verbal Contract ?
Sure. You can sue them. It will be your word against theirs, unless you have some significant proof. Win, lose, or draw, I would anticipate that your employment would be terminated.
