Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Work related problems for whistle blowing
I was employed by the Palm Beach County School District as a cosmetology instructor. I sent a letter to the superintendent asking to be transferred because I was working in a hostile environment. He never responded, and 9 days before I was to report for work for the new school year I received a phone call telling me I was laid off, and a teacher with more seniority than I would be taking my place. The problem is this teacher had a position, and she had been working out of her subject area (cosmetology) for 4 years. They had her working at a rehab center. The school district policy is you can only work out of area for 1 year. I asked about the other teachers with less seniority and why they were offerd positions at a charter school and I was not even notified. Still no answer to this. I feel my letter(s) determined this decision. The district didn't have the cosmetology specialty classes it now offers until I brought the curriculum to them in 1985. I am a few years away from retirement. When my CTA rep met with a personnel rep the statement was made that ''I didn't need the money, my brother and I own everything.'' I have been set up for failure, I based my future on the oral reliance of my superiors via meetings and memos.
