Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

the consequences of eviction

I used to live in the affiliated housing of my college. I don't go to that school anymore so I didnt need the apartment but since I had a lease, they said I had to sublease it myself. I never found someone so I wanted to know how an eviction would affect me and my credit? I moved out of the place already since May and Im still paying rent

Re: the consequences of eviction

If you fail to pay your rent and are evicted, it is up to the landlord (unclear if the college is the landlord) whether they report the eviction to credit reporting agencies. If they do, it would show up on your credit report. If not, then they could sue you for stopping payments. If you want to pursue this matter further, please call me office and refer to your LawGuru question.

An eviction can have a very substantial effect on your credit history, particularly if the landlord decides to get a money judgment for unpaid rent. It would be wise to still try and arrange a sublease or to make a deal with the landlord/college to terminate the lease early.
