Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Dispute Hearing

Iam still holding a security deposit in the amount of $1,400, as a result of specific damages to my property. The tenant moved out, hired an attorney, and disputed my claim. I sued in small claims court and the tenants, represented by an attorney would not agree to any pre-trial settlement thereby forcing a hearing before the judge. It was to be scheduled in approximately six weeks after August 24, 2004. I had one other conversation with their attorney and he asked me to think about 1/2 the amount as settlement. I told him to confirm this with his clients. Since then I've heard nothing either from the attorney or the courts as to a hearing date. My questions are: Do the statute of limitations apply to this type of case? As the plaintiff is it my responsibility to contact anyone?
