Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
Can I sue my landlord for illegal entry to my rental unit?
I have felt my landlord has been entering my unit without my permission and my fears were accurate. A couple of weeks ago I found a note on my dining table stating, "Condition of this unit is very dirty. Keeping it clean is part of your rental agreement. Carpet is disgusting & dust & dirt everywhere. Please correct this ok." A few week later there was a note taped to the door stating, "inside of all windows were soaked from condensation & saw a/c set @ 67. Totally Unacceptable. That is why elect. bill was $57.00 more than last year at this time. I reset the thermostat for 73 & want it left there. That is a comfortable setting for anyone." Of course none of the accusations are true unit is clean, carpet was dirty when I moved in. A/C is always set at 73 during the day when I am not home and bumped down a little at night. The unit is appox 450 sq ft, rent is $525/month with eclectic included. But I feel this does not give him the right to enter the unit when I am not there. As a female it is very uncomfortable knowing he has been in my private space without my permission. I keep a radio on for my cat and I have come home many times to find it turned off. What can I do?

Review your lease, what does it say about entry? Those rules need to be followed. if they are breached a letter to the landlord should be sent and he should be advised to follow the rules. as for the a/c you are allowed to be comfortable and set it as you see fit.
