Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Hi there,

I was looking for a house to rent with a few roommates and we found the perfect place - and it fit our budget. It was advertised on Craigslist for $2000 a month. The landlord is currently serving in the military, and so he has liaisons acting as tenant on his behalf. We spoke to them about the place, and everything went great. However, upon speaking to the landlord, the liaisons informed us that the landlord decided that since we are not a family, he intended to raise the rates - to something we cannot afford - and wants to charge us by the room instead. Is this legal?! I have read the Fair Housing Act, and I know it is illegal for a landlord to discriminate against a family - we are being discriminated against because we are not a family, and as a result cannot afford the place in question, which causes a lot of problems for us.

Thanks,

Karaline

By the time you fight this in court you will be homeless, if you have not signed anything, find another place. No this is not legal.
