Legal Question in Personal Injury in Florida

My nephew just received a settlement from a car accident. The attorney had him sign papers that he can't seek assistance for five (5) years. No food stamps, no medical nothing that could help him live. He is a heart patient with a defibrillator no job, yet he is being told that he can't apply for any government assistance. Is true or is there a new law.

he needs to discuss this with his attorney. this should have been considered prior to settling the case.

Typically, the settlement funds would have been placed in a special needs trust to protect (or not impact) the client's ability to qualify for government benefits.

I would suggest meeting with a local special needs trust attorney to discuss this matter.
