My Settlement

I had a trial date and a few days before it my lawyer boxed me in to take the settlement offered and not take a chance in court he said they will bring up past accidents and Ill be hard to win so I gave in really against my will after waiting 3 years to get to this point now I'm loaded with anger in only getting 10,000 when Ill never know if I would have lost in court or not thanks to his not really wanting to back me up it seemed like that to me so Im wondering if you would agree with this decision or if I was wrong in letting him get my guard down and just settle Id appreciate any help in this area as its keeping my blood peressure up Thanks a lot

Re: My Settlement

You are suffering from a malady similar to "buyers remorse". You and I will never know if you did the right thing and neither will the lawyer, You have to initially select a competent and experienced personal injury lawyer who you trust for his advice and his experience. Once you agree to a settlement you can't look back and think what might have been. Get on with your life. You could have lost it all with a bad jury. They are tough as nails these days and could easily blame your prior accidents.

Without knowing the facts of your case I could guess that you had an auto case. The juries in Florida are extremely harsh in auto cases. Depending on the severity of your injuries you could go to court and be rewarded nothing. If your lawyer is suggesting that you settle your case it is for your best interest. Your lawyer has an obligation to do what is best for you. While you may not see it that way now, because you had your hopes on big money, your lawyer did what he felt was proper for your case.
