Legal Question in Traffic Law in Florida

I am a Florida licensed “safe” driver but received a speeding citation (80/65) while on a trip to Virginia recently that is “prepayable” and does not require me to return to VA for a court appearance. I am a disabled, middle-aged, professional who has not had a traffic citation in years and feel that the VA trooper stopped me due to my rental car license plate being out of state and as part of a state revenue generating plan in Va, as I find it difficult to believe I was driving 80 mph around mountain curves.

The cost of the fine is $165 and I am tempted to just pay it, however, in so paying the fine “as is”, I must also plead guilty as charged and that guilty plea scares me. Could anybody tell me what impact paying the fine and pleading guilty will have on me as a Florida driver? On my insurance?

Thank you.

You will definitely get points on your record if you just pay it. I strongly suggest you get a Virginia attorney to help you.
