Legal Question in Business Law in Georgia

partnership

I decided to open a business few months ago. A friend offered to get involved by given me 20k in personal check. We signed a lease and I put her and my money into the business. Legally everything is in my name, such as corporation, business checking and license and all. After few months she said she is not making enough money and packed her belonging and left. Now she through her ex-husband demands her money. Just to mention her name in only in the lease and nowhere else. Now I am asking, What is my right in this situation?

Thanks.

Re: partnership

There is no way to answer. The only thing you posted that could remotely refer to the relationship is that she "offer to get involved." We can't guess what that means much less speculate about any "rights" of either of you. These relationships should be in writing, before even starting the business.

Re: partnership

We would need to know more about the facts - is the business incorporated, what was signed, etc. Certainly, if she gave you money for the business, she would have some claim to it.

If you would like to discuss any issues further, please feel free to contact my office. My contact information is below. Thank you.

The foregoing is general information only, not specific legal advice. No attorney/client relation has been created or should be implied.
