Posting Check Image Online Illegal?

Is it illegal to post the image of a check online? This company paid me with a bad checks, and I created a blog and posted one of their bad checks there, and now they're threating me with a law suit. Is that possible?

Yes it is possible. It is best to take the image down and pursue them in court with to obtain payment.

I know of no law prohibiting you from posting a copy of the check. If it is true (which it certainly is) that anyone can file a lawsuit (no matter how baseless), then it is even more true that anyone can THREATEN a lawsuit. You should consult with an attorney. If you would like to give me a call to discuss, please feel free to do so.

Posting financial information, such as bank account and rounting numbers, can certainly be a problem and it is reasonable for the company to request you remove it. If your personal financial information were posted, you would likely do the same. I am not sure why it would be a good idea to pay a lawyer over such a thing, when it is unlikely to lead to anything positive for you. Why not simply use your time, resources and efforts to collect any amount due?
