Legal Question in Business Law in Georgia

retail legality

what are the requirments for becoming a retailer for a product. Do I need a business license or an actual, physical business location. What I'm wanting to do is become an official retailer for a certain product and then sell on Ebay. What sort of red tape do I need to be concerned with?

Re: retail legality

In general, to operate a business in Georgia at a minimum you will need a Local Business Operation License from your City, your County, or both, State Tax Registration and, if necessary, a Reseller's License obtained from the manufacturer.

Other things you may need depending on the nature and location of your business and the products you wish to sell include: incorporation or the formation of a Business Entity, a Federal Tax Identification Number, a Fictitious Name Certificate, a Home Occupation Permit, Zoning and Land Use Permits, Employer Registrations (if the business has employees) and Federal Licensing, if the business involves an area covered by Federal regulations (some examples include: investment advising, drug manufacturing and sale, preparation of meat products, selling alcohol, tobacco, or firearms and others) among other things.

These items, together with a understanding of your business and your objectives, are matters that a small business attorney will be able to help you with to help you with your success. You should seek the advice of qualified counsel in your area.
