I work a 12 hour alternating shift. My employer charges me 1.5 days for every day that I use my FMLA. Is this legal under the FMLA act?

No, if the employer does not do the same thing for those who take non FMLA medical leave.
You may want to contact the Department of Labor website to learn more about your rights under FMLA. Otherwise, contact an employment lawyer in your county to discuss your rights and remedies.
