File formal eviction and have the sheriff put his stuff out on the street

To add to my prior response, if your house was his official residence, which appears to be the case, you can't just throw him and his stuff out. Whether he has officially moved out and found another residence seems to be up in the air if he is still treating it as his home. Email him and keep a copy of all the emails politely telling him he has given up the residence a month ago, to stop using his key, and give him time to come and get his stuff. If he confirms he has officially moved, then yes change the locks. If he does not get his things within a few days, file the eviction. Even then, unless you want to escalate the dispute quite a bit, you won't just put his stuff on the street and will give him every REASONABLE opportunity to get it. You not file for a TPO without more reason than you posted, and after speaking with a lawyer in your area. As I said in the last response, it was a choice of BOTH to move in together, so you both have to be responsible adults now to separate without turning it into a legal battle.
