Fixed Price vs. Time material contract

I signed what I belived was a fixed price contract. The remodeler has increased the amount due because he said it was a Cost plus agreement. How can I tell?

About the only response is to read the contract carefully. You didn't post any language so there is no way for us to speculate what it says.

Re: Fixed Price vs. Time material contract

In addition, the title of an agreement is irrelevant other than convenience. Just because a contract is titled" fixed price" does not mean that the terms necessarily parallel a traditional fixed price agreement. Either review the terms or have a local attorney review it for you.

Re: Fixed Price vs. Time material contract

It's pretty simple. If the contract says that you agree to pay a specified sum, it's a fixed price contract. If your contract says that you agree to pay your contractor a fee or a percentage of the contract as his/its fee, it's a cost - plus contract.
