Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
Credit Card Advice
My husband passed and I am no longer able to pay for our credit cards.I am 68 yrs. old, retired, and have no property owned or in my name. Social security is my only source of income and I now live with my son. What can happen to me and what should I do?

You may be able to wipe out or reduce the debt via a bankruptcy or other options. If you're in metro Atlanta, there is a free worksheet at www.glenashman.com you can complete and then get a consultation about your options.
Re: Credit Card Advice
Without more, it is hard to say, but you may be in a situation where you are essentially "judgment proof" and the creditors won't waste time and money going after you. That may depend on the size of the debt, and whether you have other funds they may go after. You may want to check the local legal aid office, or even the nearest branch of Consumer Credit Counseling for a better opinion on this issue. They may be in a better position to let the creditor know the situation and futility of going after you. Until and unless the creditors come after you or any assets you may have, bankruptcy (and the fees and expenses you'll pay) may not really be of any benefit to you. Good luck.
